Former Pinterest Leaders and Neurosurgeon Launch Roon for Peer-to-Peer Medical Discourse

A new venture-backed startup is aiming to disrupt the physician network landscape by building a proprietary data layer for unstructured clinical knowledge. Roon, a platform restricted exclusively to verified doctors, has officially launched with a product architecture designed to centralize and scale the tacit knowledge traditionally confined to informal medical consultations, private group chats, and hospital corridors.

The startup’s leadership team bridges consumer product scale with deep clinical domain expertise. Roon was co-founded by former Pinterest executives Vikram Bhaskaran (CEO) and Arun Ranganathan (CTO) alongside neurosurgeon Dr. Rohan Ramakrishna, who serves as president. While public incumbents like Doximity have scaled by offering administrative utilities—such as anonymous patient dialers and hospital ranking systems—Roon is targeting a distinct operational moat: high-engagement, peer-to-peer clinical discourse.

Roon's product strategy combines AI-driven research synthesis with structured discussion feeds modeled after real-world medical case conferences and journal clubs. According to its founders, while generic foundational models from OpenAI and Anthropic excel at summarizing published medical literature, they cannot access the experiential judgment trapped inside physicians' heads. By turning these specialized conversations into structured, searchable digital inputs, Roon is effectively building a vertical network of unpublished clinical insights.

The platform is launching as a free service, with a monetization roadmap slated to scale through targeted B2B sponsorships, continuing medical education (CME) partnerships, and specialized marketplaces. By centering its interface on peer-reviewed research and high-level ethics and policy debates, Roon aims to capture market share from both legacy professional registries and fragmented, general-audience social media networks.
